Thank you Author Michelle Magorian!
As part of Y6's writing studies in the Summer term, we wrote formal letters from the perspective of a WWII Billeting Officer. We used our understanding of the topic alongside the novel Goodnight Mister Tom by Michelle Magorian. We loved the book, it kept us emotionally hooked from start to end.
We decided to send our letters to Michelle and explain our learning journey.
Today, myself and Miss Hopps received a special surprise - a reply from Michelle! She sent a letter to the teachers and a letter to the children.
In her letter to the children, she mentioned several individuals in Y6 and what she liked about their letters.
My favourite quote from her letter is captured on the next image:
'You are all so talented and hardworking. To take on the role of Billeting Officers and out their voices on paper is a huge achievement. You should be very proud of yourselves. If I was standing in front of you, I would be applauding.'
This is extremely special to us in Y6 and we will treasure it forever. The power of books is immense and this just proves it.
Well done Y6! As Michelle said, we are so proud of you!
