Local School Committee
While the Beckfoot Trust Board has ultimate responsibility for all the Trust schools, Beckfoot Allerton Primary School and Nursery has a Local School Committee (LSC), whose role is to be a critical friend of the school.
Effective school governance must be ambitious for all children and infused with a passion for education and a commitment to continuous school improvement. It is grounded in reality and depends on a full understanding of the views and needs of pupils, staff, families and the local community.
The LSC meets four times a year and is made up of families and community members, an elected member of staff, the Head Teacher and a Beckfoot Trust Board Director. Our remit includes taking a particular interest in pupil welfare and wellbeing, staff welfare and wellbeing and family engagement. We also examine and approve various school policies, review survey results and read and ask questions about the Head Teacher’s Academic and Business Reports. So far this year, we have discussed school improvement priorities, the great outcomes for pupils achieved by the school last summer, staff wellbeing and ideas to further improve communication and engagement with families.
LSC members also take part in the Beckfoot Trust Local School Committee Conference, where we met with LSC members from other Trust schools, to learn from each other and understand more about our role. The number of family/community members on the LSC, appointed by the Board, is limited to 6 but if anyone is interested in getting involved please contact the Head Teacher.
Another great way to get more involved with life at Beckfoot Allerton is to attend the regular Family Forum Coffee Mornings held at least once each half term where the Head Teacher and other members of the Leadership Team share some of the highlights of the term and discuss particular issues, such as ways we can support families with learning at home, school uniform or behaviour policy. Dates for these meetings are sent in the Head Teachers key dates list at the start of every term and on our website under Upcoming Events.
As a parent, it's great to be able to play a more active role in your child's school. We really welcome this and feel we learn so much from families by working closely together with them. The LSC plays a vital role in ensuring the link between families and the school Leadership Team is a strong one.
