Beckfoot Trust is an organisation that links a group of local Bradford schools together so that they can collectively improve the life chances for young people within their schools. Our aim is to create a group of truly remarkable schools each with a genuine comprehensive intake. They will be wonderful places for young people to learn and grow up in. We want to make a difference. We want to create something special.

Recovery Curriculum

The last school year ended very abruptly for children across the country. To build in some closure for children and to support their transition back into school, children in Years 1 to 6 at Beckfoot Allerton started the term in September with their previous class teacher.

To support children's transition from one teacher to the next, we used two core texts as part of our Recovery Curriculum across all year groups at the start of this term. The first - The Boy, The Mole, The Fox and The Horse by Charlie Mackesy is primarily about relationships and regulation and has enabled children in all year groups to reflect on, talk about and make sense of the challenges faced by their families, our school community and the wider world recently.  It was wonderful to see the children growing in confidence as they explored ideas in writing, art and discussion.

Our second core text Here We Are by Oliver Jeffers inspires a sense of awe, wonder and hope about the amazing world we live in and has helped children to re-connect with a sense of belonging to our school community as they start the new school year.

Work completed during these first two weeks alongside some of the amazing work produced by children in bubbles during the Summer Term and children’s achievements at home in the Spring and Summer Term will form part of the Beckfoot Allerton Exhibition of Hope at the end of this half term.

We know that the events of this year will have impacted children and their families in many different ways. Opportunities to explore these challenges and support the wellbeing of all our pupils will be central to our Recovery Curriculum over the coming months.
