Mercury marked #InternetSafetyDay by creating characters and recording thoughts about how to behave online. The important take-away message was that hiding behind a screen doesn’t give us a licence to be unkind, we must continue to wear our SCARF and act how we do face to face. Children talked about certain skills to communicating online, including identifying what was the most important and why. The class then spoke about what it feels like to be a bystander and witness poor online behaviour. As a class, we discussed strategies to help us when we’re a victim or a witness to online behaviour that we deem to be inappropriate.
